Alexander Anderson (1775–1870)
Alexander Anderson (1775–1870) was an early American illustrator. Although he trained and was licensed as a physician, he eventually gave up his medical practice in favor of wood engraving. Anderson began using wood in about 1793, and until about 1850 he was the country's leading wood engraver.
