Freshman Herald
The Freshman Herald (1926-2016) was a yearbook of the incoming freshman class published starting in 1926. The foreword of many of the volumes offers the following information. "The Freshman Herald is issued for two purposes: first to help in establishing as early as possible the personal association among its members that constitutes the basis of class spirit in college and alumni loyalty after graduation: and second, to facilitate acquaintances between the class and other undergraduate classes and Officers of the University." Entries for students are brief and generally consist of a photograph, high school/prep school attended, hometown, and birthday. The Freshman Herald, commonly called the "facebook", is a particularly valuable resource for locating information about campus and especially photographs of students who only attended Princeton for a brief period of time and did not graduate. Using the OCR or Optical Character Recognition feature is a great way to start your search. You can learn more about searching here.
