Bevza, Petro
Petro Bevza was Born on January 1, 1963, in the village of Shpytky in the Kyiv region to a family of teachers. A member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1990, he has held more than 40 solo exhibitions both in Ukraine and abroad. He has received several prestigious art prizes and distinctions, including the Honorary Prize of the International Salon of Contemporary Art D'ART`96 in France; a grant from the Pro Helvetia Foundation for the Best Art Project of 2001 in Biel-Bien, Switzerland; and the Order of Civil Courage for his contribution to combating terrorism and extremism in Kyiv in 2011.
This collection presents a selection of paintings from Bevza's "Peregrines" series, featured in the original exhibition "Synergy" held at the National Art Museum of Ukraine in August-September 2022. The majority of works for the "Synergy" exhibition were created just before or in the first months of the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine.
In the early days of the war, the Bevza designed a patch for Ukraine’s Armed Forces featuring a white Peregrine Falcon, a mythical bird-warrior and hero of many folk songs and epics.
"I am convinced that there are only two emotions - love and fear," says the artist. "I choose love, and therefore, I try to transform fear into faith, hope, and victory."
