Princeton University owns one of the world’s largest library collections devoted to Hellenic Studies, with particular strengths in Byzantine and post-Byzantine manuscripts, early-modern Greek printing, the Greek Enlightenment, Philhellenism and Modern Greek literature and poetry. This collection is the result of a unique partnership with Princeton’s Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies and its Director, Dimitri Gondicas. The Center aims to strengthen scholarship, teaching and research in all aspects of Byzantine and Modern Greek civilization, while exploring their relations to the classical tradition and the Late Antique world. The Library has benefited greatly from this collaboration of both financial and intellectual capital, and its collection reflects the aims of the Center’s founding donor, Stanley J. Seeger '52, who through his generosity hoped to "advance the understanding of the culture of ancient Greece and its influence...and to stimulate creative expression and thought in and about modern Greece."

Ancient and Modern Greek Collections at PUL features a selection of digitized rarities that highlight the breadth and depth of this collection. In addition to books and manuscripts, the collection is rich in other material formats as well, including photographs, maps, diaries, postcards, ephemera and the personal papers of, among many others, Kimon Friar, Edmund (Mike) Keeley and George Seferis.
