- C. B. Nualart. El alma de las ruinas: Comedia dramtica en dos actos y en prosa (Episodios historicos de la Guerra de 1914). Teatro de los ninos. Barcelona: Seix & Barral, not before 1915.
- Curatorial note:
-
Production of juvenile theaters, those iconic nineteenth-century toys, did not start in Spain until the 1860s. Seix & Barral’s famous Teatro de los ninos series included this timely kit and script about the war widow Germana, who tends wounded soldiers in Hermana Teresa’s facility. When Germans attack and the nun refuses to leave her patients, Germana saves the day. The example here has the most expensive M façade with pillars and molded architectural details, no distracting wires for operating the figures, and the capacity to create special effects with back-lit colored tissues. Manufacturer Seix & Barral won the Agrupacion de Fabricantes 3rd Toy Exposition’s award in 1917 for the toy with the best artistic qualities.
