- David L. Aaron. Notes on the first White House meeting on the Iranian hostage crisis, 1979.
- Curatorial note:
-
In his role as Deputy National Security Advisor for President Jimmy Carter, David L. Aaron *62 conducted talks with Israel’s Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan for eighteen months prior to the Camp David summit in September 1978 that resulted in the Egypt-Israel peace treaty the following year. When Iranian students initiated a takeover of the US embassy in Teheran in November 1979, Aaron recorded the discussion among the major figures at the first White House meeting on the crisis, resulting in dozens of pages of notes that covered its impact on US foreign policy, oil prices, and other economic and political ramifications, as well as consideration of possible military options.
