First printing of a work by the explorer Kondō Morishige on Japanese coins made of gold and silver. The seven volumes contain 543 illustrations of coins from ancient times to the beginning of the nineteenth century, along with their sizes, shapes, and inscriptions. The last volume, a supplement, offers additional details regarding the coins’ name variations, characters, and origins. The work was acquired as part of a multi-disciplinary research program on Japanese mining conducted by Thomas Conlan (Princeton) and Jack Stoneman (Brigham Young University), bridging humanities and sciences.
