The title Hwanghwajip (Korean; Chinese: Huang hua ji) is used for collections published by Korean officials containing poems exchanged between Ming envoys and their Korean hosts. This copy comprises five such compilations published at different times, presenting poems composed during envoy visits of 1450, 1476, 1521/1522, 1545, and 1546. The term Hwanghwa (Brilliant are the flowers) from the Shi Jing 詩經 (Book of Odes) refers to seeking information while traveling by horse. Princeton’s copy does not have the original Korean-style covers; it was rebound later in China in Chinese style and sold as one set. This unique edition was printed with Kyŏngjinja 庚辰字 type, a 1580 recasting of the famous Kabinja 甲寅字 type.
