The Peter Donald Collection of Byzantine Coins 40 items

The Peter Donald Collection of 5,280 Byzantine coins was acquired by the Numismatic Collection in 2016 with funding support from the Stanley J. Seeger Hellenic Trust and the Friends of the Princeton University Library. The collection is notable for the completeness of the holdings of bronze and silver coinage for the period 498–1204 CE and for coins in all metals from 1204 to 1453. An example of the extraordinary depth of the collection can be seen in the representation of the bronze coins of Justinian I, 527–565, from the single regnal year 16 (542–543) in a range of denominations, mints, and workshops within mints.
