Included are photographs of ranch buildings and cowboys (branding, de-horning, herding cattle, riding horses, setting up the chuck wagon). Many show various polo match activities. The front pastedown bears the business card of "G. W. Von Schriltz, Tucumcari, New Mexico, Wells Fargo & Co. Express, Agent," one of the polo players identified in a ranch polo match and possibly responsible for the photographs.

Included are depictions of members of the Sioux, Nez Perce, Apache, Osage, Taos, Navajo, Seminole, Eskimo, and many other Indian tribes and of such leaders as Geronimo and Quanah Parker.

- Consists of 13 original gelatin silver prints taken by Frank Bennett Fiske of Indians of the Dakota Territory. The photographs were originally housed in a binder which was assembled by Fiske and Marion Jordan Piper, with accompanying typed identifications, biography and comments on the images. It was meant to be a prototype for a bound album representative of Fiske's work, and was to be offered for sale. The portrait of a Sioux mother and child has an imprint at the bottom which reads: Fiske Photo, Fort Yates, N.D. Also included is a brief biography of Fiske, and newspaper clippings of him and his wife.

- Chiefly contains printed poetry and songs on various subjects clipped from various American and English newspapers, primarily from the "Atlantic Monthly," but including the "London Daily News" and the "Washington Intelligencer." Also includes some miscellaneous engravings, portraits, and photographic reproductions of various 19th-century literary and political figures. Among these are two albumen photographs of Native Americans: one a single portrait and the other a group portrait of 8 individuals, including a Westerner. - Montana photograph album (“Montana Views and Scenes” on front flyleaf) consisting of 48 sepia-tone gelatin photographs (approx. 4.75” x 6.75” or 11 x 16 cm.). 25 images feature views of frontier lifestyles and scenery (ranches, mines, millworks, and equipment); 10 snapshots feature Assiniboine Indians and lifestyles; 7 feature soldiers and military life; and 6 feature local people and friends. Each image is captioned in white ink, mounted in black cloth album (7” x 11”). Presumably, the photographs were taken by an officer at Fort Assinniboine, near Havre, Montana, in the final years of 19th century.

- Contains 178 albumen and gelatin silver photographs (ranging from 23 x 19 cm. to 5 x 7 cm.) of New Mexico and Arizona, including cities, landscapes, Indian ceremonies and customs, and pueblos. The album consists of what are apparently snapshots taken by members of a touring party, along with photographs by professional photographers, notably W.A. White. 75 prints feature views of Native Americans and pueblos, including the Hopi and Zuni and identifiable pueblos at Taos, New Mexico and Walpi, Arizona. Some topics include dance, including what is very likely the San Geronimo (St. Jerome) feast at Taos and either the Snake or Flute Dance at Walpi; 69 prints feature views of the surrounding landscapes, modes of travel, or members of the traveling party; 21 prints feature "typical" scenes from daily life in and around the areas visited, including scenes of farming, ranching, and cityscapes (of which Albuquerque, New Mexico is known); 13 prints feature mission churches, among which the San Miguel Mission, Church of San Felipe, and Old Parish Church at Taos are identifiable.

- Diary attributed to 1st Lieutenant Milton Cogswell, who led the 8th United States Infantry military escort that accompanied John N. Macomb's 1859 exploring expedition. Datinng from about July to October 1859, the diary documents frequent encounters with American Indians, many of them known to the author from his previous time in the region; discussions of the author's task, aside from military duties, of being in charge of a large supply team of soldiers and Mexican laborers who followed the expedition with pack mules and sheep; and descriptions of the landscape.
