- Princeton MS. 178 contains classical and medieval school texts, many of which circulated as school texts in German-speaking areas, with glosses and commentaries. The manuscript was later in the library of the Königliche Marienstifts-Gymnasium in Stettin, Pomerania (now Szeczecin, Poland). It is unknown when the library acquired the manuscript. During World War II, the Marienstifts-Gymnasium was forced to relocate away from Stettin and then ceased operation. Since the end of World War II, the book has been in private collections. The Princeton University Library purchased it from Sandra Hindman (Les Enluminures, Paris, Chicago) in part with support of the Theodore F. Sanxay Fund and the Presidential Fund of Harold T. Shapiro and Vivian B. Shapiro, and purchased in honor of Prof. Theodore J. Ziolkowski (Acc. no. 2003-3).
