- Land deeds provide important indications of indigenous placenames as well as conceptions land use. This deed describes the transfer of land from the Saskamani and Weneamkanon peoples to Daniel Boxe, Matheus Gardiner, Thomas Stevinson, Joseph Kirkbride, John Budd, John Wills, Peter Fretwell and their heirs. The document was signed on August 18, 1713 and describes a parcel of land in New Jersey "bounded with the River Delaware on the South and South Westerly Sides." This deed was drafted during a period in which colonists attempted to dispossess the Lenape of their lands via treaties and purchases. This deed is a copy of an original which is now held at the New Jersey State Archives.
