Curatorial Note:
One of the first books printed by ʿAbdallāh Zākhir’s press at the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Shuwayr, Lebanon, this book constitutes part one (not part four) of a text on the Vanities of the World. Originally written in Spanish by the Franciscan monk Diego de Estella (Didacus Stella, d. 1578), this work was translated into Arabic by the Spanish Franciscan Alonso Miguel Corjade. A bookplate at the back of the book notes that John Francis Lanneau (d. 1921), American Civil War veteran and Professor at Wake Forest, once owned this copy.
