- The "identity of R.R. is uncertain," according to Moon, but she suggests R. Ransom and Richard Roe as possibilities (cf. Moon, p. 101).
- Preface, explaining goals and methodology, and Notes, explaining letter sounds, precede alphabet rhyme and plates.
- Illustrations: 25 colored plates depicting children presenting alphabet letters in sign language (with A and B together on one plate), beneath an ongoing alphabet rhyme, surrounded by labels showing the letters in Roman, italic, script, Black Letter, and Fractur fonts; the last plate shows all the alphabet letters on tiles, accompanied by a six-line conclusion to the rhyme.
