  • "Only Juvenile and only illustrated edition of these patriot songs, which vividly paint 120 national "types", professions and social stations, with engravings supplied for the amusement and instruction of children, who knew the tunes by their titles (given at the head of each poem). These verses attribute various virtues of conduct and character to the sailor returning home, the modest woman, honorable beggar, honest merchant, gardener, widowed mother, devout stone cutter, beau, thankful child, helpful neighbor, happy bachelor, etc.
  • "Originally issued in 1778, this celebrated collection was the first fruit of the highly productive collaboration of Betje Wolff and Aagje Deken (1741-1804), the two most important Dutche women writers of the late 18th century. Copies of earlier printings are known with engravings from Allart's inserted after publication at the customer's request. But in this edition, produced over seven years, Allart sold the fascicules with the plates as an integral part.
